Our Cows

The Herd

We have an assortment of breeds and crosses here at Flat Branch Farm, and I like that. Growing up with a herd of all Angus, there was no need to guess what a new calf was going look like...they were all black! Nowadays, it's really exciting when we're expecting calves, because everyone gets to guess what he or she will look like. We have some purebred Brown Swiss and Jersey cows as well as crossbreds (made up of more than one breed) that contain Jersey, Angus, Guernsey, and Norwegian Red genetics in them. We also have a Red Angus cross herd bull that breeds all of our cows, so the calves have even more crossbred genetics!

Below you will find all the cows that are a part of our raw milk herd share. You can also scroll down past the photos to read a little bit more about each of the girls.

Elna is a 5-ish year old cow and one of the newer faces around the farm, but she's already won us over. She is A2/A2 and produces 4-4.5 gallons per day. This is the sweetest cow; she is so calm and quiet. That is, unless she has grain in front of her, then she is like a piranha. Elna calved in July, so she is just a few months into her 3rd lactation. We are hoping she's bred for an early fall 2025 calf.
